HISTORY

British_BDSM, affectionately known to all as the ‘Brit List’, came into existence in 1999, borne of a chap (and friend) named Riff from Birmingham, who basically wanted to get his leg over (his own immortal quote I might add!). Thankfully, myself and a few others stepped in and between us all we made it a rather splendid national bdsm resource, which became a 6 year legendary email list of over 2000 UK bdsm folk!

We had birthday parties at the BBB (Birmingham Bizarre Bazaar), munches in London and other places, and eventually two spin off sister lists; the Personals one (still there and growing) at Brit_BDSM_Personals and the affectionately named ‘ladies loo’ which was by invitation only (inactive). There was also a public ladies only list – at UK_BDSM_Women_only – which was formed at a women’s forum at SM Pride 2001 by ourselves (inactive).

Nowadays, the British_BDSM mailing list is one of the sad victims of the yahoo banning of adult groups, willy nilly, having literally gone from a huge community to simply wiped out overnight. Sad, but true. We migrated the group to British_BDSM at Smartgroups in the hopes of reviving it’s former glory but sadly that never really transpired, and is now sadly relegated to the annuls of UK BDSM history. Many of us share some fantastic fun memories of that list though, so it lives on in our hearts!

NEW LIST

So nowadays you’ll find us on the CMunch mailing list, which is where you’ll also find all the information on our monthly run event; the Chesterfield Munch [EDITORS NOTE: sadly this is also currently not running due to loss of our venue, but I'll announce it everywhere when we're back!].

CREDIT / ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The original list as aforementioned was created by Riff, so thanks mate, for some great years. Our wonderful icon the ‘British BDSM Triskele’ was designed and created for us by Aiden aka bondart222 (yahoo) specifically and without reservation for the British BDSM community mailing list back in 1999. I thank him here and acknowledge his generosity, and ask that should you wish to use the symbol you ask ourselves first. We still have a few button badges around that have this design would you believe, in fact I still have one proudly on my leather waistcoat!

IMPORTANT ~ ORIGINAL BDSM SYMBOL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The original BDSM Emblem however, is a symbol that was already created for the bdsm community back in 1994/5, and the history of that symbol and it’s creator ican be found HERE.
